Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

I have been to Chicago a few times, but this was the first time I was able to actually see the beautiful city. Southwest Airlines always has sales to Chicago’s Midway Airport from Hobby Airport in Houston. When I saw the $98 round trip deal, I immediately booked. Most of the $100 and under deals I have been able to find are Saturday- Tuesday.

The hotels and Air BnB were pricey in May, but like always Hotwire came through with a 4 star hotel for only $97 a night. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Chicago located at 151 E Wacker Dr. Chicago, IL 60601. Guest services even upgraded our room to a suite for free! The hotel is located Downtown which everything you need within walking distance. Uber was always available within 5 minutes and very inexpensive to get to the places we needed to go. I look forward to staying at the Hyatt the next time I am in Chicago.

I enjoyed waking up this this view everyday.

Day 1: I made sure my first stop of the night was at Soule Chicago. It was hands down the best food I had my entire trip. I loved the food so much I did an entire post (linked under food reviews)

Day 2: No trip is complete for me without a going to a pop up museum. I had such a great time at WNDR (check previous post for more details)

I was told you couldn’t go to Chicago and not try the deep dish casserole ( I mean pizza) I was highly disappointed when we went to Gino’s East. The pizza is cooked in a wood fired oven which takes about 45 minutes to be done. The tomato sauce was very watery and lacked flavor. For the pizza to take 45 minutes to cook, it came out cold.. Gino’s was definitely my least favorite restaurant the entire trip

The historic “ Bean” is located in Millennium Park. I’m sure there is some history behind the Bean, but I only went for the photo op. It was extremely crowded on a Sunday afternoon.

Day 3: Breakfast: If only the food at Batter & Berries taste as good as it looks. I read so many good reviews on google and yelp prior to my trip. I was looking forward to trying a few dishes and I was extremely disappointed. The food was mediocre at best. We attempted to go on Sunday morning but the line was wrapped around the block. We then went back on Monday morning around 8 am, their was not a wait. The food came out pretty quickly. I had really high expectations. Don’t believe the hype Pictured: Lamb Chop Trio

After lunch we attempted to use our City pass that we purchased from Groupon. Due to the rain we cut our Big Bis Tour short and went to the Skydeck. The Skydeck is where you can see the entire city from 103 floors up in The Willis Tower.

As you can see I chickened out when it came time to stand on the ledge. Maybe next time.

For Lunch we stopped by Portillo’s, which is known for selling the famous Chicago style hot dogs. Honestly it taste the same as the Chicago Dog from Sonic Drive Thru. Portillo’s is a tourist attraction for sure., Their wasn’t anything special about the hot dog.

Lowcountry South Loop located at 1132 S Wabash Ave. Chicago, IL 60605 Another picture that is very deceiving. I love seafood and have had some great seafood boils, but this was not one. The potatoes were hard and the sausage was disgusting. It tasted more like a wiener sausage. The sauce lacked seasoning and flavor. On top of the bland food, the restaurant is completely self service, be prepared to work.

Day 4: Before headed back to the airport, we walked to Wildberry Pancakes & Café. This is another tourist attraction, but since we went during the week it wasn’t as crowded. The food was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I'm not really a big fan of breakfast, but Wildberry’s made me a fan. I wish we would have ate here the first day, I probably would have went back every morning. Their were so many menu selections that I want to try, I’m already looking forward to going back. Pictured: Mexicana Sizzlin’ Skillet- $15 Hash browns, cheddar, and jack cheese, 2 eggs, chorizo sausage, fresh jalapeños, avocado, cilantro and onions.

Last stop- No trip to Chicago is complete without having at least a bag of Garrett’s popcorn. There are several locations throughout the city and even at the airport. When you go try the Garrett mix, you will be thanking me later!
